SUMMARY:Palliative Care Week
DESCRIPTION:Planning for Palliative Care Week 2025 is well underway. This year\, the campaign will take place from Sunday\, 7 to Saturday\, 13 September and the theme for the campaign is Palliative Care: Living for Today\, Planning for Tomorrow. \n\n\n\nEvery year\, we try to choose a theme that lends itself to sharing those core messages about the benefits of palliative care\, under a strong broad theme. We hope that this will help you and your organisations when planning events and other activities to help to support this year’s campaign. \n\n\n\nPalliative Care Week is a campaign dedicated to raising public awareness and increasing understanding of palliative care and its benefits. Its primary audience includes those who could benefit from palliative care\, health and social care professionals\, the wider public\, and communities across the island of Ireland. \n\n\n\nWhy Palliative Care Week ? \n\n\n\nIt is in line with key palliative care policies across the island of Ireland \n\n\n\nMisunderstanding about palliative care persists\, meaning some people who could benefit are less willing to seek it\, potentially missing out on improved quality of life \n\n\n\nIt comes under the broad understanding of public health approaches to palliative care

SUMMARY:Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness month \n\n\n\nGynaecological cancers are those that affect the female reproductive system and include womb\, ovarian\, cervical\, vulval and vaginal cancers. This September the aim is to provide a better understanding of these cancers and their treatments. If you have been diagnosed with any of these cancer types our Supportline has experienced cancer nurses that can answer your queries in confidence. \n\n\n\nTreatments for gynaecological cancers include surgery\, chemotherapy\, radiotherapy\, hormonal therapy\, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. The treatment you will be offered depends on a number of factors and will be explained to you by your doctor and nurse. \n\n\n\nIt is important to understand why you are being offered this treatment and the possible risks or side effects it may cause. Ask questions if you need anything explained. This information may feel overwhelming so remember support is available for you during this time. Your hospital nurse can help you navigate your treatment options and provide advice on managing possible side effects. \n\n\n\nOne possible effect from gynaecological cancer treatment can be the impact on your sexual relationships. Treatment can affect your sexual wellbeing by causing physical and emotional changes. Our website has some information on specific sexual side effects here. Many women feel embarrassed or uncomfortable discussing this with their medical team but it is important to get the information you need. Your doctor or nurse may not go into detail on these side effects unless they know you would like to discuss it so tell them if you have any queries or concerns. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to speak to a cancer nurse for further information\, advice or support you can call our Supportline on 1800 200 700\, Monday to Friday\, 9am to 5pm. There is also a gynaecological cancer resource called This is GO which is an Irish based personalised online resource for women impacted by Gynaecological Oncology(GO).
