SUMMARY:World Blood Donor Day
DESCRIPTION:World Blood Donor Day 2025 – June 14th!\n\n\n\nEvery year on the 14th of June we celebrate World Blood Donor Day and thank our donors for giving blood\, platelets and bone marrow to help save lives. \n\n\n\nWe take this opportunity to thank and recognize the incredible voluntary blood donors who have contributed to the health and well-being of people in need around the country. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow you can support World Blood Donor Day \n\n\n\nGive Blood \n\n\n\nIf you are eligible to donate blood\, please give an hour of your time to this life-saving act. The actual blood donation only takes a few minutes and once you are finished you can enjoy some refreshments knowing you have helped someone in need. \n\n\n\nGive Platelets  \n\n\n\nWe always need new platelet donors in our Cork and Dublin centres. Check your eligibility and help fight cancer!  \n\n\n\nSpread the Word \n\n\n\nIf you can’t donate blood or don’t have the time\, you can really make an impact by spreading the word about the importance of giving blood. Encourage your friends\, family and colleagues to give blood. Many people are not aware of how easy the process is and so spreading the word in your local community really helps.

SUMMARY:World Hepatitis Day
DESCRIPTION:World Hepatitis Day\, 28 July\, is an opportunity to step up national and international efforts on hepatitis\, encourage actions and engagement by individuals\, partners and the public and highlight the need for a greater global response as outlined in the WHO’s Global hepatitis report of 2017. \n\n\n\nThe date of 28 July was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg\, who discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus. Low coverage of testing and treatment is the most important gap to be addressed in order to achieve the global elimination goals by 2030.
