Background

The Healthy Workplace Framework was launched in 2021 and outlines the government’s strategy to enhance the health and wellbeing of Ireland’s workers. The Framework sets the strategic direction for workplace policies and programmes to enhance the health of workers.

Healthy Ireland is now embarking on the implementation of the Healthy Workplace Framework.  We are pleased to announce that applications are open for eligible workplaces to partake in the first Healthy Ireland –  Healthy Workplaces Programme, a 12-18 month-long programme of activity that supports Irish workplaces to get started on their wellbeing journey, implement targeted strategies, and achieve the status of a Healthy Ireland, Healthy Workplace

What’s Involved in the Programme?

Participants will get the opportunity to:

  • Attend programme events and networking sessions
  • Receive 1-1 consultations with experts in workplace wellbeing to support their implementation of the framework
  • Achieve the Healthy Ireland Healthy Workplace Status
  • Submit their work for consideration in the Healthy Workplace Programme Awards at the end of the programme

Participants will be expected to:

  • Attend a Healthy Workplace Framework training session between January – March 2025.
  • Deploy the Healthy Workplace Framework in their workplace
  • Achieve the Healthy Ireland Healthy Workplace Status
  • Submit their work for consideration in the Healthy Workplace Programme Awards at the end of the programme


Who Can Take Part?

The first iteration of the programme will focus on SMEs and target sectors where evidence points to the greatest need for workplace wellbeing supports.

To be considered for participation, your organisation must have a minimum of 20 employees but less than 250 employees.

How are applications assessed?

Eligible applications will be assessed against four selection criteria:

  1. There is a demonstrated need for workplace wellbeing support within this applicant organisation.
  2. The anticipated impact of the programme across the applicant organisation is clearly evidenced.
  3. The application indicates a firm intention to commit to the programme and an understanding of programme requirements.
  4. The organization’s participation would contribute to the geographical and sectoral spread of the programme.

Sector

Companies of all sectors are encouraged to apply once they meet the size criteria.

Special consideration will be given to sectors where the evidence points to the greatest need for workplace wellbeing supports, including: 

  • Construction
  • Food Production
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality
  • Manufacturing
  • Retail
  • Transportation

What Happens If My Application is Not Accepted?
  • If you meet the eligibility criteria your application will be placed on a wait list.
  • Pending an evaluation of Phase 1 of the programme, it is the intention of Healthy Ireland to widen the eligibility criteria for participation in future programme iterations.
