The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives

As people around the world live longer than ever before, societies are facing one of the most significant demographic transformations of our time. Longer lives present unprecedented opportunities, but also require rethinking how health systems, labour markets, social protection, education, housing and public policies support people throughout the life course.

The 2026 United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP), organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) in partnership with the NGO Committee on Ageing in New York, will bring together Member States, United Nations entities, civil society, academia, the private sector and older persons to explore how societies can adapt to the age of longevity.
