Awareness Week on Alcohol Related Harm
1 December – 5 December
The HSE (Health Service Executive) marks December 1–5 as the Awareness Week on Alcohol Related Harm, aligning with global and European public health initiatives. This campaign highlights the serious health risks associated with drinking and promotes the national low-risk guidelines to encourage safer consumption habits.
The HSE’s low-risk weekly guidelines aim to help adults reduce their risk of alcohol-related cancers, liver disease, and other harms:
- Women: Less than 11 standard drinks (110g of pure alcohol) spread out over the week.
- Men: Less than 17 standard drinks (170g of pure alcohol) spread out over the week.
- Alcohol-Free Days: Ensure at least 2 to 3 alcohol-free days every week.
